Re: Diesel corrosion

Thanks for the explanation, Pat.

It appears that J1488 intentionally includes dispersed and dissolved water to assess a filter medium's ability to strip both from the test fuel.

That certainly makes sense.

Cheers,
Fred

Re: Diesel corrosion

Pat: When 2,500 ppm was added to ULSD, how much actually remained in solution? Most ULSD water solubility v. temperature tables indicate water solubility at 65 F to 75 F to be <1,000 ppm. I agree with you about KF being the only reliable method for determining the concentration of dissolved and disp...

Re: Diesel corrosion

Depends on what you want to know about the sites and whether you are establishing a benchmark, doing routine condition monitoring, or root cause analysis, Zane.

How's that for a specific answer?!

Cheers,
Fred

Re: Diesel corrosion

Great question, Zane. My experience is biased - I rarely get to do surveys unless a client is feeling pain. That said, in my experience, it is not rare to find that in locations where multiple retail sites sites share similar problems, the terminal is the common denominator. In one instance, many ye...

Re: Diesel corrosion

Welcome to the forum.

My chapter on sampling, in ASTM MNL 1, 2nd Ed. (https://www.astm.org/DIGITAL_LIBRARY/MN ... 170018.htm) discusses many of the issues about which you asked. The chapter was peer reviewed, so it reflects a general consensus.

Re: Diesel corrosion

How do you run a pH test on a non-aqueous sample, Zane? My experience with bottoms-water tests has been that low pH is a much less common phno9menon than it was in the pre-ULSD era. Polar additive partitioning into the aqueous have increased total dissolve solids (TDS) concentrations by 1 to 2 order...

Re: Diesel corrosion

Thanks for the additional testimonial language Steve. Do you have any technical literature? I could not find any on your website. I think of myself as an open minded skeptic. I am always willing to be persuaded with well documented case studies - especially when data from treated systems are compare...

Re: Diesel corrosion

Looks like an interesting new product, Steve. I'd like to see a few detailed case studies to support the glorious statistics reported on the website. I'd also like to see a non-proprietary overview of the technology on which the filters rely to absorb dispersed and dissolved water, and an explanatio...

The article was a synopsis of the NACS webinar that Jeff Hove, Amanda Applebaum, Spencer Parkinson, and I recorded last week and that will be shown on 17, 20, and 21 November - see the link below.
