Suction Pump Shear Valves

Post by crcind » Mon Nov 06, 2017 7:40 am

What is the difference between the EBW 664 valve and the OPW 70S valve? Can either one be installed under a suction pump to meet NFPA regs.?

This would be my understanding - the EBW 664 and old Tok 52 valves are shear valves for suction pumps that include a pressure regulating section that is required when suction pumps are used with ASTs. The 70S is a shear valve designed for a suction application, but does not have a pressure regulating section.

First, Tankgenie knows much more about suction systems and AST's than I do.

I don't think any of our suction systems have shear valves.

Per 2018 version of NFPA 30A 6.3.10-- http://www.nfpa.org/codes-and-standards ... l?code=30A

Shear valves are only required IF a booster pump is utilized or the tanks create a gravity head. A vacuum-actuated shutoff valve with a shear section or the shear valve has to be listed and labelled in accordance with UL 842, Standard for Valves for Flammable Fluids.

UL 842-http://standards.globalspec.com/std/9919999/ul-842

I think you could use EBW 664 or Tokheim 52 since they are pressure relief valves.

Or the EBW 662 or OPW 10SHMTP-5811 are UL 842 listed shear valves-

RIS-UPV under pump valves were designed to update tank top take a look at valves, and so save you leakage from defective suction strains and pipe-paintings joints. In the case of a leak within the suction strains the pump will lose top indicating a trouble. The elective stainless steel mesh strainers will guard the take a look at valve and additionally the dispenser internals.

Our High Flow under pump valves are the main valves inside the marketplace and in addition to promoting to OEM’s for inclusion on Dispensers, we also sell for retrofit markets to increase safety and pollutants protection in gasoline line installations.

• Fits ‘Oval’ 2 bolt flanges AND ‘Triangular’ 3 Bolt Flanges, see diagrams above.
• Easier installation due to progressed flush fit layout
• High flow capability
• Includes bolts, washers, nuts and gaskets
• Anodised corrosion resistant end on all aluminium components
• FEATURES vacuum breaker, drain down feature, and 1/8” BSP gauge factor
• TESTABLE consists of above features AND poppet lock down clamps, allowing isolation and testing of pipework without disassembly of suction strains.

Does anyone have experience testing a product line with an EBW 664 valve installed at the dispenser? Are the procedures the same as when testing a line with a Tokheim 52 valve installed?
