But understand that if the Flex Fuel vehicle being driven was optimized for ethanol (Flex Fuel) enriched fuel it would be cleaner, longer lasting mechanically, perform better and get better mileage than if running on gasoline. Problem today with Flex Fuel vehicles is that they are optimized for gasoline more readily available.

E85, or flex fuel, is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline that can be used in vehicles specially designed to run on it – as well as regular gasoline. ... The average price of a gallon of gas is about $3.54, according to AAA. So if your car can run on flex fuel as well as gasoline, the choice seems clear … but it's not.
great

If getting somewhere fast saves you money.

SSC Tuatara
The 5.9-liter twin-turbo, flat-plane crank engine produces 1,750 horsepower while using E85, and 1,350 horsepower on 91 Octane.

331 MPH on public highway.

Ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline, which means flex-fuel cars pump fewer toxic fumes into the environment. Flex fuel also contributes fewer greenhouse gases, making it a more environmentally friendly option than traditional gasoline.
