Grounded Fuel Dispensing Nozzles

Post by mjs909 » Fri Jul 24, 2015 10:32 am

Does anyone make a gasoline fuel dispensing nozzle equipped with a grounding cable so that static electric build up from fuel dispensing can be discharges through the grounding wire to the dispenser and then to grade?

Your hanging hardware should be grounded by default. The hose has wire braid, and everything else should have continuity through it to the dispenser. Verify ground from the nozzle to the outlet adapter on the dispenser with an ohm meter, checking continuity between the 2. then verify between the adapter and the main conduit feeding the dispenser j-box. if all is good, you're grounded.

If you want to ADD a ground, after verifying, clamp a short cable with an alligator clip to the nozzle and attach the clip to the receptacle while fueling. Hook it up BEFORE opening the cap.

I'm assuming you're having static problems at a retail fuel site. If this isn't your application, let us know what you are working on.

By the way, there is a PEI Recommended Procedure for continuity testing for fuel dispensing hardware for refueling safety, PEI/RP400-12.
