Is there access to the old forum at all?

I could host it for archival purposes....

The machine is offline and at the office.

I can check and see if they would let me share the Access database with you.

Why not just keep it live but closed to new posts? That was a really basic forum and shouldn't take almost ANY resources to keep online.

MS Access is considered a liability and new servers do not support it. Even with registration turned off the forum would present a security risk to the rest of our systems.

I have been told that only the number of posts that were determined to have made sense were transferred.

For example Diesel on the previously formatted forum you may have had 300 posts. Transferred to the newly formatted forum you only had 2. That means that 298 of Diesel's posts prior to the introduction of the newly formatted forum were probably determined to have not made sense or failed to follow any logical train of thought. I would agree with that logic except I see your comments on the newly formatted forum regarding

I could convert the Access Data-set to MySQL

Do not need access to you computers, just the .mdb

I hate to say it but everything from the old formatted forum is probably in either heaven and rerouted to a distant star by now. Being the case there were some real classic posts in the old format data base.

Here's the database problem solution.

The only problem then is finding a forum software that can read the database natively as mysql.

Isn't there a conversion process for the access db to be converted to something else? I mean most forum software has an upgrade path, and once you get to a certain level the big software (like the phpbb we run on now) will convert from there.

One of the strongest points of forums is the tremendous knowledge in past discussions. It's the best type of seo, and is tremendously valuable to the users.

That would be great if the old posts were available in some way. Went looking for something related to igems and the search result came back with 2 topics. There is a wealth of knowledge that will be lost if those old posts go the way of the dodo bird. Heck I would like to have a copy of the db just to be able to search for old posts with a query tool.
