Here is another Power Point presentation - "ULSD Corrosion Issue...Preventable, Treatable?"

http://www.neiwpcc.org/tanksconference/ ... nesday.pdf

This was presented March 21, 2012 at the 23rd National Tanks Conference. Author appears to be the same person that wrote the Diesel Soaps paper.

Ps. stops printing at page 12 -next page has moving graphics.

Has anyone had any success getting rid of the corrosion? If you did what did you do?

Folks - I'm looking at a different angle: acetic acid in the vapor space of USTs causing all this corrosion.

Included is a presentation from ASTM in July 2010 addressing this. Interesting!!

Good luck to all of us on this.

What the heck is a motor column cover? Heard it referred to with chuckles as an EPVC column condom. Even more chuckles when we were told it was not adjustable and had to be cut to fit.

Looks like acetic acid is the culprit folks............The project final hypothesis for this investigation is that corrosion in systems storing and dispensing ULSD is likely due to the dispersal of acetic acid throughout USTs. It is likely

produced by Acetobacter bacteria feeding on low levels of ethanol contamination. From the report issued today here:

Diesel corrosion

All of a sudden we have a problem????

Volume 18, Number 1 April 2003. I read close to the same report in 2003 that summed it all up with the buzzwords "Cauldren Effect" for the underwriters of equipment warranties or an "Ancient Family Recipe" for those who eat Cracker Jacks.

Interesting time lines to start addressing the problem. Now however it really is toooooo late and the oil companies god bless them, have created millions and millions worth of repair bills.

This truly, if you repair gas station equipment is a great business. You have to just love it.

Though I hate to say it if you own a glass or steel diesel fuel storage tank your screwed.
