BP Mx915 Pinpad 24 Hour Reboots at Very Inconvenient Time

Post by MadMike » Mon Jul 29, 2019 11:02 am

Got a BP site where they have Passport/Commander POS, 3 registers, all pinpads were recently upgraded by another company to one of the latest versions of ViperPay, 4.05.03.02, OS 0330251000, time was set correctly and 24 reboot time was changed from default to 11:30PM, I assume so as not to interfere with the site's automatic Store Close. After that the pinpads all began doing the 24 hour reboot at 6:30AM. Site was walked through checking date/time and re-setting and enabling the the 24 Hour reboot time to 11:30PM, but it apparently changes itself back every day and all 3 pinpads rebooted at 6:30 AM. Verifone said pinpad needed to be reloaded so the original tech went out and this time loaded the latest on the Portal, 4.06.04.03 and changed 24 reboot time to 2:AM, now pinpads reboot at 7:30 AM. Has anyone ever seen this? My company is being asked by the customer to come out and resolve the issue but short of verifying the time in the Commander, downgrading to a lower version, and making sure there isn't an odd time zone setting somewhere, I'm not sure what I can do that the original tech has not. Verifone and BP have apparently been little help. I installed about 40 sites worth of BP Passport/Commanders when 11.02 came out but I never ran into anything like this. Thanks

Why not just disable the 24 hour reboot?

You won't be able to turn off the 24hr reboot.. This is a requirement in the PCI 4 devices. Terminal will reboot 24 hrs from the last time it was powered up, and continue to do so. If you know how to get into the usr1 config the value is in 24hr time. If it's the SCA app, here's the value.

24hrreboot=03:05:00

PCI3 devices don't have the value natively , but because the load files being built are now used in 3 and 4 devices, the value get added by default causing the behavior in newer released PCI 3

Site has also tried that, seems to re-enable itself at the very inconvenient time every day. I'm probably going to have to go to this site, was jus hoping to go with more ideas than the few I already mentioned. Thanks

The release notes say that it will reboot 24hrs from the last time was powered up by default. I think when you enable the auto reboot it makes it do it at a specific time instead of 24hrs from the last time someone reset it. Only other thing I can think of is if you are setting the system time and reboot time correctly? It is a 24hr clock.

Yeah, I read that too. Site was planning on power cycling the pinpads last night just after store close but didn't trust the clerks on staff then to do it correctly so they're going to try again tonight. It's be swell if that worked but disabling the 24 hour reboot hasn't worked as it just re-enables itself so I'm not hopeful. We'll see what the morning brings - if they reboot in the AM after power cycling at 11:30 PM I'm going to head out there. It's a few hours away, otherwise I'd have been more hands on by now. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll update you when I have more
